Why should boys have all the fun? Girls play flag football too!

SNAPtivities Founder and President Genevieve Caffelli has been running the SNAP Flag Football League in Bloomfield Hills and Birmingham for over 20 years for children ages 3.5 to 8th grade.  All of her programs are open to girls & boys from any city, although the majority of her participants have been boys… until now.   “Times are changing” says Genevieve, who started an ALL GIRLS League in 2020, the first of its kind in Michigan. Research suggests there are tremendous health benefits to sports activities, such as reducing levels of obesity and chronic diseases to eliminating risk behaviors such as smoking.  And kids who play sports, particularly girls, have higher self-esteem and greater self-confidence.

Genevieve reached out to girls in first grade through fifth grade and formed teams of girls to play with and against girls only and it’s catching fire. Coach Genevieve, as she is known by her beloved devotees, says over the years she had tried to encourage girls to play but many people when they see the word “football” assume it's just for boys because that’s the way it's always been. “We could call it powder puff”, but that didn’t set quite right with Genevieve. What people may not know is the game is NON-contact (no tackling is allowed at all), Recreational (it’s really exciting to play and watch) and it’s great exercise for the kids and for the parents who volunteer to coach, and best of all it’s FUN!

because a large percentage of the registration fees go right back into the school systems.”

Genevieve Caffelli has worked with over 40,000 children over the past 35 years. She has decades of experience designing, initiating, implementing, and directing a variety of sports and enrichment programs. She is committed to this area; she grew up in Birmingham, went to school in Bloomfield Hills and continues to live and raise her family locally.  At SNAP, we believe that character-development, fun, and learning walk hand and hand.
