FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

GENERAL

Q: Are Girls Take The Field and SNAP Flag Football associated with NFL Flag?
A: YES, both leagues are an Official NFL Flag League for 25 years. All tournaments run by NFL Flag are open to any players registered with Girls Take The Field Flag Football or SNAP Flag Football. If you are interested in additional invitational tournaments not associated with NFL, we have agreements with organizations all over the US and even some national organizations.

Q: Is it safe?
A: Flag Football is absolutely non-contact. It is considered one of the safer sports for young athletes.  The skills players learn in flag football translate across all sports!

Q: Can the team have additional practices during the week?
A: All families commit to a single practice and game each week. Additional practices are not something that the league sponsors, so any times outside of the one hour dedicated on game day are up to each individual family.

Q: How much playing time can my child expect?
A: Coaches are required to fairly allocate playing time equally among all players on the team. We will do our best to ensure all players receive equal playing time. All our programs promote participation, fun, and fundamentals.

Q: Are any awards given?
A:  K-2nd grade players will receive a participation award. 3rd-12th grade division first place winners will receive championship rings.

TEAM, COACH & BUDDY REQUESTS

Q: How many players are on a team?
A: Most teams have 7-10 players.  However, we do reserve the right to stretch these guidelines if the league deems necessary.

Q: What if my child and their classmates do not have enough players to form a team?
A: No worries! We will always try to keep classmates together, but if needed we will combine players from other schools to form your team for the season.  If there are more than enough players from any given school and grade, we will form additional teams as necessary. Everyone who wants to play is welcome.  We will not turn any players away.

Q: How do I request my child play with a specific teammate?
A:  This is a league designed to keep schoolmates and friends playing together.  Please be sure to enter your child’s teammate request during registration.  This is VERY important to us and we go out of our way to make all players feel included, but it is not guaranteed. Most teams will have 7-10 players and teams determined by school, buddy request, and grade.

Q: Why can’t I request a teammate for Little Snappers and Bitty Blitzer?

Teams are not formed for the younger children; we created a clinic the help them learn the fundamentals.  Therefore, you do not need to request a teammate.

Q: Can I register players as full team?

Currently, you cannot register a team.  Each individual must register separately. HOWEVER, when you register, be sure to request a specific coach and we will do our best to add them to the requested team, but they are not guaranteed.  Additionally, you can follow up with an email to flagfootball@SNAPtivities.com with your intended roster.

Q: How many teams can one school have?
A: As many teams that can be formed from each school according to grade/age division will be accepted. Everyone who wants to play is welcome!

LOCATIONS

Q: Is flag football played inside or outside?
A: Teams play outside on turf field. Practice is often conducted on a grass field at the same location.

Q: Do teams always play at the same locations?
A: Generally, yes. On very infrequent occasions, the league reserves the right to use a different location in case of field scheduling conflicts with the school district.

PAYMENTS

Q: What is the difference between paying under the Bloomfield link VS. the Birmingham one?
A:  During registration, you have the option to play in Bloomfield Hills on Saturdays or Birmingham on Sundays.  When paying you can choose whichever of the two sites you prefer. By registering in one city or the other, you are donating a portion of your registration fee directly to that city, so that is up to you.

Q: What do I get for my league registration fee?
A: A seven-week season including practices, use of well-groomed fields, refereed games, a volunteer parent or high school student coach, a reversible NFL team jersey, organized administration, a lot of FUN for you and your child—and likely some new friends!  If you signed up for a Bitty Blitzers or Little Snappers, you will receive a T-shirt, not an team jersey.

Q: Do you know a child who's eager to play but whose family may face financial challenges and struggle to cover the full registration fee?
A: SNAP Flag Football believes every child should have the opportunity to participate. If you donate through Coach Genevieve’s Promise, your contribution will be matched. Reach out to Genevieve@snaptivities.com to discuss donation options confidentially.

Q: What is the cancellation/refund policy?
A: A full refund will be given up until the last day of registration. No refunds will be allowed after this date. This means you will NOT have the game schedule prior to determining if you need to cancel or not. If we allowed players to request a refund after the game schedule and team assignments, it would not be possible to create teams with enough players, which could possibly corrupt the integrity of the league.

EQUIPMENT

Q: Does the league supply uniforms?
A: Yes, every flag football player participating in a league receives an official NFL reversible team jersey included in the cost of registration. The Bitty Blitzer and Little Snappers will receive a t-shirt.

Q: Do all flag football players need mouth guards?
A: Yes, it is MANDATORY that all players are wearing a mouth guard before stepping on the field. For your convenience, we sell them for $6 during registration and at the welcome tent.

Q: What size footballs will the players use?
A: Kindergarteners use mini footballs (red), 1st-4th grade use pee wee footballs (blue), and 5th-12th use junior footballs (brown).

STAFF

Q: Who are the coaches?
A: Coaches are parent or high school student volunteers. The Girls Take the Field and SNAP Flag football leagues do not hire coaches. Parents may volunteer to coach their child’s team. No experience is necessary; we can help with training.  If interested, please register here

Q: Who are the referees?
A: Referees are paid positions. Most, if not all, of our referees are players that have played in the league when they were younger.  If you're interested, please register here.
